General information about Sevilla
Sevilla (in English: Seville), located in the south of Spain at the river Guadalquivir, is the capital of the autonomous community Andalusia as well as of the province of Sevilla. The city is an important industrial and commercial centre. Due to its rich and traditional Spanish culture it is a goal for countless tourists. The city centre is situated on the left side of the Guadalquivir River, surrounded by various suburbs. On the right side of the river there is Triana, another big suburb.
Sevilla has a population of about 710.000 inhabitants living on an area of 141 sq km so that the density of population is 4856 inhabitants per sq km. The urban area of Sevilla has a population of about 1,043,000 inhabitants (as of 2000 estimates). The population of the metropolitan area (urban area plus satellite towns) is about 1,594,081, so that Sevilla is the third-largest metropolitan area in Spain.
Sevilla, situated at an altitude of 12 m above Sea level, has a Mediterranean climate with continental influences, as it is not located straight at the coast. The winter is very mild with maximum temperatures of 15,9°C and a minimum of 5,2°C in January. The summer is very hot, with temperatures ranging from 35°C to 45°C in July and August. Between October and April it is also raining. The month with the most rain is December, with 95 mm of rain. The total precipitation per year is 534 mm, with 52 days of rain and 4 days of snow. As the city has more than 300 hours of sun per year you are very likely to have pleasant weather when you are visiting Sevilla.
